Story

New York

Graham studied graphic design and photography at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. After freelance work for Lincoln, Garnier Fructis and the Carnegie Council, he worked at New York agencies as creative director and UX designer at Madzik Agency, UX designer at SSR and associate creative director at Story Worldwide. Clients included Columbia, Purdue, McGraw Hill Financial, Unilever brands, GE, Napster, Nike and Puma.

He led creative and UX for the giving-day campaigns of two universities: the sites, logos, video concepts, print and social posts by the hour. Purdue’s 2015 Day of Giving raised $13.7 million in 24 hours, a record for a single-day campaign in higher education at the time. Columbia’s 2015 Giving Day, for which he worked as an independent consultant, raised $12.7 million, its best to that point.

New York also ran on music, art and the occasional film set. As Oblib he produced electronic music and DJed, hosted the radio show Adequate Underground on East Village Radio and put on shows with his collective, Adequate Records. His art has appeared in more than 30 exhibitions in New York, Brooklyn and Miami. He voiced a party promoter on the street in Grand Theft Auto IV and turned up in the background of The Good Wife, Person of Interest and Law & Order: SVU.

Product design

From 2015 he worked as a product designer, first between New York and Portland and then in Portland. At Cinomadic he was lead product designer on an ethics-certification app for McGraw Hill Financial and on Rivals, a bar-sports app he took from research to final design. At Pow Interactive he designed advisor software for a major financial services company, testing it with advisors old school and new.

At EyeCue Lab, as senior product designer and co-product owner, he led design of a solar-sales software suite for Powur: the platform its sellers work in every day, a back office for projects and installations, a customer website, and iOS and Android apps, built with 13 developers, 3 QA engineers and 2 designers.

Sound

In 2019 Graham began leading sound ceremonies in Portland as Aloka, a name that means light. It started as an app he wrote and designed, a wellness program built on breathwork, yoga and meditation; the practice it pointed to became the business. A lifelong musician, he works with crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, harmonium, gong, handpan, frame drum and voice, and draws on rhythm, breath and non-dual philosophy.

Aloka became Aloka Sound Bath House in 2025 and has held more than 200 sessions in studios, boardrooms, parks and living rooms: a weekly residency at Bodha Yoga since November 2024, sessions at Wild Reed Yoga, Park Lab on Mt. Tabor, and private sessions in the Attic, his studio near Mt. Tabor. Soho House, TEDxPortland and Lululemon have brought Aloka in for their people, and Killian Pacific sponsored a four-month residency in Portland’s Central Eastside.

Now

In 2026 he founded Alike, a design and experience studio for studios, practitioners and boutique hospitality. The name is Aloka with two letters changed, and it says something he believes: we’re all alike. His recent work includes a new identity for Wild Reed Yoga, a Portland studio that left the Modo Yoga franchise to build a name of its own, and aloka.org, which he designed and built.

He also builds his own products: SoundBath.co, a national guide to upcoming sound baths; Bricks, a web app for organizing a weekly game of H.O.R.S.E.; and Made in Portland, a directory of websites made in Portland. PØNG is his shop of clothing and gifts, and Aloka Press, hum, a series of physical objects and new art are on the way.

Beyond the work

Graham is an ordained minister in an Advaita Vedanta lineage. He practices yoga, breathwork and meditation, plays ping pong and pétanque, rides his bike and brews his own kombucha. He lives in Portland with his wife and son.

A ping pong thread

Ping pong runs through the whole story: the elephant logo, website and hand-painted glass signage for PIPS Table Tennis & Art Space; Tiger Beer’s Tiger Pong; a Puma ping pong holiday at Brooklyn Bazaar; Open Paddle, a table waitlist for venues; and Here Here, a meet-up network he co-founded after looking for an easy way to round up friends for a game.

In his words

  • Everyone is creative. We grow to create.

  • Make time to waste time.

  • Sometimes we vibrate high, sometimes we vibrate low.
